# TIKL-26 real-user trial protocol

## Cohorts

Recruit conventional touch typists, index/middle-dominant self-taught typists, and mixed self-taught typists. Record hand dominance, keyboard form factor, prior layout experience, and keyboard gaze.

## Baseline

Use three QWERTY sessions with matched prose, chat/email, search queries, and technical text. Record gross and corrected WPM, corrected and uncorrected errors, backspaces per 100 characters, per-key and sequence timings, gaze proportion, and 0-10 discomfort/fatigue ratings.

## Exposure

Day 1: 20-30 minutes familiarisation. Days 2-7: two 15-minute sessions. Weeks 2-3: 30-45 minutes daily. Weeks 4-6: progressively introduce real work with immediate QWERTY fallback.

## Logging

Capture timestamped key events locally with informed consent. Never log passwords or private content. Derive per-key latency, bigram/trigram latency, rollover, same-finger delay, and learning curves.

## Review points

Review days 3, 7, 14, 28, and 42. Compare each participant with their own QWERTY baseline and stratify by typing style.

## Decisions

Retain when accuracy is at least 96%, discomfort is no worse than baseline, and corrected WPM is still improving by day 28. Modify when a small set of keys creates persistent errors or a finger group exceeds baseline discomfort by two points. Suspend for pain, numbness, or tingling.
